We pay out for early-stage breast cancer

BrightRock has the most comprehensive set of clinical definitions for critical illness cover in the market. With over 300 conditions covered, our additional expense needs cover is a market leader. As we continue our series looking at how we underwrite and cover breast cancer, we turn our attention to case studies that demonstrate the power of our product.

One of our clients was diagnosed with stage 1 multifocal breast cancer in February 2024. This means that she qualified for a 25% pay-out on her additional expense needs cover. We paid out R250 000 to the client on confirmed diagnosis of this condition, without needing her to go for any treatment.

If the client had the advanced option on her policy, we would have paid 100% for the diagnosis of stage 1 breast cancer. Our advanced option is an add-on feature that increases your client’s pay-out for a number of specific conditions for additional expense needs cover. It gives clients the ability to receive an automatic increase (percentages vary for different conditions) to their pay-out for specific conditions, up to a maximum pay-out of 100%.

Another client was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in-situ of the breast in August this year. This type of early-stage breast cancer qualifies for a 50% pay-out. BrightRock paid the client just over R80 000, which is 50% of her cover amount. With BrightRock, the client doesn’t have to have treatment, surgery, or even a mastectomy, to qualify for a claim payment.
